Tamladu Greetings

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The Governor and Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh have extended their sincere greetings to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Tamladu Festival.

Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma expressed hope that the festival will evoke the blessing of Almighty for prosperity, good harvest and the protection of the humanity from natural calamities.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said that festival is a public display of the religious, social and supernatural beliefs of one of the oldest tribes of the state.

In a message this evening Tuki offered his prayers for protection from natural disasters and welfare of domestic animals, human beings and the newly planted crops.

“Our festivals are embodiment of our life, beliefs, values and virtues. Besides offering gratitude and prayers to the Almighty, festivals showcases our rich cultural heritage,” he said.

“The rich heritage and rituals have to be maintained, preserved and propagated at all costs while keeping intact our unity in diversity. I believe this celebration of Tamladu would prove a major catalyst towards achieving this goal,” Tuki added while calling upon all to join the festival.

Bye-election result on Feb 16

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The counting of votes for bye-election to 27-Liromoba (ST) Assembly Constituency which ended yesterday will be done at Aalo on February 16 from 8 am in presence of ECI observer, according to a release from Chief Electoral Office.

The by-poll recorded 90.03% voter turnout.

SES seeks subject teachers

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The Sajolang Elite Society (SES) today appealed to the Minister Education for posting senior teachers at Government Higher Secondary School, Nafra. In a press release SES President Aju Khonjuju said that Nafra government higher secondary is only higher secondary school in Sajolang inhabited areas and is facing shortage of subject teachers.

Though the CBSE examinations are nearing, the course is yet to be finished, SES President claimed. SES further informed that it will soon embark on massive awareness campaign on education and health and other social issue at Lada circle in East Kameng, a release said.

Labourers arrested for rampant construction

ZIRO, Feb 14: Eleven labourers along with the owners were arrested in a checking drive against rampant construction of buildings on the ROW of TAH in the 20 to 40km Joram- Koloriang road in between Neelam to Deed under Lower Subansiri District.

The arrested labourers were also found without proper ILP and they have been kept in the police station, Hapoli.

Meanwhile, CO Marina Siram and CO Bengia Yakar along with police personnel, who carried out the checking informed that the District Administration has strictly warned against such illegal construction and added that such checking drive will be continued and building materials will also be confiscated. Dwelling house gutted

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The dwelling house of one Licha Richo was reduced to ashes in a devastating fire which broke out early this morning at Lekhi village near Nirjuli, claimed a release from Licha Welfare Society. The cause of the fire is suspected to be an electric short circuit. Reportedly, one person identified as Licha Otup sustained severe burn injuries during the course of mishap. He was rushed to Arunachal Pradesh State Hospital, Naharlagun for treatment and said to be stable.

Claiming that the inferno completely burnt down household items including local ornaments worth lakhs of rupees besides rendering the family homeless, the Society fervently appealed to the state govt particularly department concerned to provide immediate relief to the victim.

CYO for strict drive against traffic violators

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The Capital Youth Organization (CYO) has appealed to the Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) and the superintendent of police (traffic control) to conduct surprise checking of vehicles and use the device breathalyzer to detect the drivers who are under the influence of alcohol.

Expressing concern over reckless driving the CYO observed that most of the accidents occur due to drunk driving.

Voluntary blood donation camp organised at NERIST

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Around 46 units of blood were collected during a voluntary blood donation camp organized by NSS cell of North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh AIDS Control Society and Arunachal State Hospital, Naharlagun at NERIST health unit, Nirjuli today.

The technical manpower for the camp was supplemented by a team of 6 nurses from Tago Memorial Hospital, Nirjuli.

Dr. P. Ringu briefed the donors about the benefits of blood donation and about the dos and don’ts of post donation.

A. Dinamani Singh, i/c Coordinator, NSS NERIST also highlighted the role of voluntary blood donors to eradicate various transfusion transmitted diseases.

Dony Taying of APSACS also highlighted the current status of voluntary blood donations in Arunachal Pradesh.

Awareness prog on social issues, Govt schemes held

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Indo Global Social Service Society (SMILE) conducted an awareness programme on social issues, rights and duties of individuals in the society and Government Schemes at Nyorch, Naharlagun on February 14. Altogether 35 youths participated in the programme.

Speaking on the topic “Preservation of Indigenous languages of the land” as resource person, a RGU scholar Bengia Seema highlighted the importance on preserving local languages, especially among the youths.

The other resource person Neelam Rupa, Chairman of Arunachal Civil Society, dwelt at length on the social issues like personal crisis. Rupa also shared some personal experiences on how to overcome it.

Adultery in the society, gender discrimination, student politics were some others topics which have been discussed in the programme.

Dani Yakang, Associate Coordinator IGSSS, highlighted on various government schemes available for youth and the others. An elaborate discussion was made on SABLA schemes for the benefit of girls.

AHYA conducts mass social service

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: When the whole of world was busy celebrating Valentine’s Day today, the members of All Hija Youth Association (AHYA) was found conducting a routine social service in their village in Lower Subansiri district.

According to AHYA president, the social service was conducted to make the village clean and hygienic and create public awareness about the importance of healthy environment to live in.

The AHYA team also visited its burial ground at Nindu Ninchanh and Lyayinhpu to check the illegal encroachment.

Workers Unions demand better facilities, says no to Pre-paid meter

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Reacting to infamous Pre-Paid Meter being installed by the power department of Capital Complex, though belated, the worker unions under the banner of All Arunanchal Pradesh Workers Union(AAPWU) today strongly opposed installation of pre-paid meters system and demanded for scrapping it.

The various workers organisation such as All Arunachal Pradesh Departmental Workers Union, All Arunachal Pradesh Public Health Engineering Department Workers Union, All Arunachal Multi Tasking Workers Union and All Arunachal Pradesh Anganwadi Workers Union have joined AAPWU in opposing the pre-paid meters.

Addressing the media persons at Press Club today AAPWU President Jalley Sonam stated that working class is strongly opposed to the installation of prepaid meters claiming that working class cannot afford the bill in prepaid system, as many are not getting their salaries on time.

Sonam said that the department and the government should come up with better policy considering the difficulties faced by the workers. AAPWU also opposed the muster-roll system being followed by the department of Environment and Forest to pay salary to the workers.

It claimed that there is high possibility of misuse of power by the officers while disbursing the working class salary. It demanded the government to ensure the payment be made through Treasury Department to maintain the accountability.

The workers union also demanded the government to establish Labour Cooperative Society for the wellbeing of working community. It further added that though the chief minister has assured to increase the amount of beneficiaries of the workers under Arunachal Pradesh Building and Others Construction Workers Welfare Board (APBOCWWB), it is yet to be materialized.

It also demanded for hiking of remuneration and promotion of Anganwadi workers and Anganwadi Helpers. The union also demanded for grant of maternity leave to Anganwadi workers up to 30 days and TA/DA and housing allowance facilities.

In his address AAPWU Working President Techi Tara said that Auxiliary Labour Corps(ALC) working in remote areas across the state are being deprived in many fronts. Tara urged the government to regularise the ALC workers and initiate voluntary retirement policy and other welfare scheme for them. He further informed that AAPWU and other workers organisations have served ultimatum to the state government till 31st March 2015.

“We will launch state wide democratic movement against the state government if the government fails to address our issue, Tara added. The members from the other workers unions also attended the press conference.

APPRCC seeks early notification of ZPC as DPC chair

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Coordination Committee (APPRCC) has appealed to the Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Nihal Chand Meghwal to intervene and directed the state Govt for early notification of Zila Parishad chairperson as the chairperson of the District Planning Committee (DPC) which is long pending demand of the Panchayati Raj bodies in the state.

While submitting a 11-point memorandum to Union Minister Nihal Chand Meghwal on February 12 last, the Committee said that during Dec 2007, the ZPC was the Chairperson of the DPC, but after constitution of urban local bodies, Deputy Commissioner is made the Chairperson of District Planning Committee which is contrary to the spirit of the constitution. The committee further said that ZPC being the highest authority of PRI bodies should have enjoy the protocol status equal to a state minister.

Demanding allocation of adequate central fund to Panchayat bodies, the committee urged the minister for inclusion of all panchayat segments of the state under the BRGF for minimum infrastructural development, Committee also requested the minister to sanction at least 1779 Gram Panchayat Ghar @12 Lakh with additional resource support of 25% hike for NE region in one go under the Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Sashaktikaran Abhiyan (RGPSA). Other demands of the Committee included one time central fund of Rs 20 crore for the construction of state Panchayati Raj Hostel and district Panchayat Training Centre in each district under RGPSA, implementation of the 2nd State Finance Commission recommendations for better functioning of the PRIs, regularization of the service of the employees who were appointed against the posts created under the 13th Finance Commission Grants and merger of DRDA support staff into the Zilla Parishad/DPDO Office.

Govt is contemplating to revamp education sector: Felix

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Parliamentary Secretary (Education) Bamang Felix said that the state government is contemplating to revamp education sector for overall development of the state.

Speaking at the valedictory function of 2nd College Week celebration of Government College Doimukh today, he said that state government has sanctioned Rs2 Cr. under SPA for the Government College Doimukh, which must be utilized for infrastructure development at the permanent site.

Dwelling upon the diminishing stage of pan Arunachal identity and cosmopolitan education, he appealed to the college fraternity to set a new standard of pan Arunachalee identity in spirit and practices to be imbibed by all.

Responding to the memorandum submitted by the general secretary of the college, he assured to give special attention to the college.

Papum Pare District BJP president Tana Heli while appreciating the college community for organizing such programmes, assured to support and finance for the best college ‘students of the year’ with scholarship of Rs 50,000 every year.

Responding to the eight-point memorandum submitted by the general secretary of the college, he assured to provide a PA set or two computer sets to college.

The programme was also attended by Zila Parishad Member of Doimukh Tana Yayo, panchayat leaders, public and government officials of Doimukh along with the principal, faculty members, staff and students of the college.

ATA team tours remote Kurung Kumey, Kara Dadi, urges Govt. to address schools problems

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: A team of central executive committee of Arunachal Teachers’ Association (ATA) led by its president Tarh Yaku along with the executive members of ATA’s Kurung Kumey district unit toured Kara Dadi and Kurung Kumey districts recently to take stock of the functioning of various schools in the two districts and problems faced by them. The team during the tour claimed to have found school infrastructure and basic amenities required for schools in bad condition and there was shortage of subject teachers in most of the schools which is one of the key factors obstructing the educational growth of these districts, said ATA in a release.

“In addition to that, lack of road communication, abysmal status of present roads and poor telecom services in those areas are adding to children and teachers’ woes,” the release said.

The ATA appealed to the authority concerned of the GoAP and the people’s representatives of both the districts to pay attention to redress those problems to improve the poor education scenario of these two districts. ATA also called upon the Department of Education for immediate creation and establishment of DDSE for newly created Kara Dadi district.

During weeklong tour, the ATA team interacted with teaching community and students of Koloriang, Nyapin, Sangram, Palin and various other places.

While visiting schools and interacting with the teachers, the ATA team appreciated the service rendered by the teaching community despite numerous problems which they are facing in their duty places. It also urged the teachers of both the districts to work selflessly for the greater interest of the district and the state as well.

Joy of reading spreads to remote Anjaw schools

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: “If this is the way the children are taught the lessons, they’d learn them in just an hour!” remarked a Mishmi grandmother at Sung village in Anjaw, after keenly watching the book reading sessions at the local Govt Middle School this week. The event was part of the Reading Promotion Campaign conducted by the SSA Anjaw jointly with Bamboosa Library & “Being Mishmi”, a local NGO of Anjaw.

The campaign covered Govt Middle Schools at Quibang, Kherang, Sung & Manchal in central Anjaw and KGBV Hawai. At each venue, the programme consisted of reading presentations by the Coordinator using well-known authors and books, to give the young readers an exposure to the rhyme and rhythm of English language and also expose them to the joy of reading. Dr. Seuss’s 2 delightful books “ABC” and “One fish, two fish...”, provided this in ample measure. The students in turn read aloud unknown passages from children’s magazines given to them, which also painfully brought out the acute need for providing the rural students listening exposure to good English, .

The story reading sessions anywhere are a great attraction. The art of story-telling and how to develop imagination came alive in Leela Manjumdar’s well known “Tiger Tales” and renowned cartoonist Shankar’s “The Lion and the Rabbit” (both by CBT). Gandhian educationist Gijjubhai Badheka’s demonstration of using dramatization for promoting language development (in his delightful classic “Divaswapna” ) was evident here to the teachers, and also the curious Mishmi grandma who was watching the sessions! The purpose of poetry recitation for joy of reading and a love for literary forms comes alive in Jack Prelutsky’s “If I ran the school...(Scholastic). Though bordering nonsensical, these poems give a warning to teachers and parents to be judicious in giving Home work. They were a big hit with adolescents in all Anjaw schools.

Use of games for language learning and mathematics was another item that was greatly enjoyed by students as well as teachers. The games vividly brought out how the vocabulary skills can be built even in the remotest schools. The students were also introduced to the various periodicals like the Childrens’ Magazine, Kochi, Chakmak, Bhopal, Dimdima, Mumbai, The Children’s World and After School, New Delhi which have been generously publishing creative items from Lohit reader-activists.

Another item that was greatly appreciated was a video of Nobel Prize winner Malala’s’ deeply moving speech on the day the Award was announced. The students were all attention, as it struck a chord in their heart, coming as it was from a young person living in adverse environment, just like them

Addressing the concluding session, Eringso Romat, Chairman, “Being Mishmi”, thanked the DDSE Anjaw and his staff for so wholeheartedly encouraging and supporting the Reading Campaign¬¬¬¬. He also assured that his society would be taking up reading campaign all through the year to reach out to schools in remote pockets of the district. DDSE Anjaw K Perme has conveyed his hearty appreciation to the team for the success of the campaign.

Inaugurating the Campaign on behalf of DDSE Anjaw, at the Quibang Govt Middle School, Akhraiso Ngadong, Coordinator, BRC, Manchal, pointed out the need for strengthening reading habits among students, if they have to become good learners and successful citizens. “This can be done only by dedication, determination and enthusiastic efforts. This will improve one’s study habits” he advised the students. He also appealed to the teachers to introduce weekly library hours for all classes in the next academic year.

Outlining the vital importance of reading a variety of library books, S. Mundayoor, the Coordinator, Lohit Youth Libraries explained to the students that the more one read, the faster became one’s reading speed; and comprehension. Reading aloud training too is vital for developing language skills better. The wonderful story books already provided to all schools can also make language learning fun, he said.

Free operation camp by Vivekananda Kendra

ITANAGAR, Feb 14: Sixty-eight major and minor surgeries for various ailments like gall-stone, appendicitis, hernia etc. were conducted during a six days free operation camp organized by Vivekananda Kendra Arun Jyoti in collaboration with Dept. of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh and Remote Area Medical, Knoxville, USA at District Hospital, Changlang.

Eight doctors from USA and one surgeon from Maharashtra rendered their services voluntarily. The Gastroenterologist conducted 132 endoscopies for the patients suffering from gastric, ulcers etc. Two medicine specialists examined 401 patients and free medicines were distributed accordingly.

The Govt. officials, the public leaders and the people of Changlang district appreciated this cause and wish to have this type of camp in future also.

The NRI doctors have shown their keen interest to re-visit the place again as there is a need for more such specialized camps.

The camp was inaugurated by Changlang Deputy Commissioner Chanchal Yadav on February nine.

Water is one of the most important substances on earth: Ering

PASIGHAT, Feb 14: To create awareness among the general public regarding conservation of water and its management for sustainable development, the East Siang Department of Water Resources (TW&GW) in association with College of Horticulture and Forestry Pasighat organized a two day workshop at Pasighat.

Attending the inaugural program today, Lok Sabha MP Ninong Ering said “water is one of the most important substances on earth and all plants and animals must have water to survive”. He asked the participants to aware the message among the masses about the importance of conservation of water.

He further said, demands are increasing every year for water while resources are becoming more and more limited and therefore the planners and technologists should find and start using all the innovative water conservations methods that are available today, added that such type of workshops would play an important role in educating people about the importance and judicious use of water.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Srivastava expressed hoped that the workshop would find indigenous solution for meeting the water related demands and suggest future road map for efficient management of water.

While sharing her experience, she said “If we do not learn and start making judicious use of water from now onwards, we may receive severe crisis in near future”.

Dean, Prof. AK Pandey also said, such workshop would enrich the farming community and updates them with modern technologies and solutions available for the areas for water management.
